Most playback errors are the device rather than the file. A few are the file itself, and those are easy to spot once you know the pattern.
"Playback error" or "No compatible streams are currently available"
This is usually an outdated TV or device — the built-in app can't decode the file. The fix is an external streaming device (Google TV Streamer, Apple TV, Fire TV Stick) rather than the TV's own app. The easiest way to test is on a mobile device or web browser at app.emby.tv

- Smart TV Issues — if you'd rather try fixing the TV first
If the error happens on one title only, on every device, the file itself is the likely problem and support can look at it.
Downloading to watch offline
You can download in the Emby app and play from Downloads when you're offline.
If a download won't play, tell support the device, how much free storage it has, and the exact show, season and episode (or movie).
Still not playing?

- Open a support ticket — if it won't play at all
